Jose Mourinho will receive a huge £2million bonus if he manages to steer Tottenham into next season’s Champions League.
The 56-year-old arrives at Spurs with a mammoth task on his hands, with the north Londoners already a whopping 11 points off the top four and lie 14th in the table.
His job begins at West Ham on Saturday as he bids to inspire the club’s first away win since January earlier this year.
And if Mourinho can get Tottenham back in the table’s top four by the end of the campaign, that he will receive an extra £2m on top of his lucrative £15m-a-year contract.
Let’s not forget that Spurs can also forge a way back into next season’s Champions League by winning the competition this season. They were finalists in the 2018/19 campaign, losing to Premier League rivals Liverpool 2-0.
Of the task ahead, Mourinho said at his unveiling press conference on Thursday: “I couldn’t be happier.
“In relation to the difficulty of the job ahead, every time a club changes mid-season it is because the situation is not good, that is obvious, unless something strange happened we don’t know about.
“Basically the results sometimes force these decisions. The potential of the club is huge.
“The potential of the players is great, I am so happy that was one of the reasons I came because of the vision that Mr Levy put in front of me about the club and the quality of the players and squad.
“I know potentially I have a great job in my hands.”
