Jose Mourinho doesn’t want Harry Kane going anywhere and apparently told the striker he’ll win trophies under him.
The reports will appease Tottenham fans concerned at the thought of Kane following Mauricio Pochettino out of the club to pursue silverware elsewhere.
Former White Hart Lane captain Michael Dawson was one of those, telling talkSPORT: “That group of players loved Pochettino. What he has done for the last five years is absolutely incredible.
“He made Harry Kane, and all I would say is I hope that doesn’t make him go, ‘now I want to leave.’”
However, The Times report Spurs’ new boss texted the 26-year-old after his confirmation as Pochettino’s replacement pledging that if he sticks with him, he’ll soon have a winners medal around his neck.
Kane has twice been on the losing side in finals – the Carabao Cup and Champions League – during his time at the club, while The Mail write Mourinho told his chairman, Daniel Levy, the striker must not be sold.
Mourinho took charge of his first training session, with his new backroom team, where he met the players and was seen talking to Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Eric Dier.
It is thought he also spoke to certain players individually, including Kane, the captain in Hugo Lloris’ absence.
The manager’s first game is against West Ham on Saturday afternoon, live on talkSPORT at 12.30pm, and he has his work cut out to drive them up the table from 14th.
“What can I promise? Passion – for my job but also passion for my club,” Mourinho said in his first interview with the club.
“In relation to the Premier League, we know where we are and we know that we don’t belong there.
“At the end of the season we will see where we are but I know we are going to be in a different position than we are now.”
