Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their transfer plans as key Gunners target Monchi has completed his return to Sevilla.
Monchi, the famed sporting director, was expected to join the north Londoners following his exit from Roma earlier this month, with the Spaniard set to reunite with Unai Emery.
Emery and Monchi worked together while at Sevilla, but the transfer guru has opted to return to his ex-club rather than link up with his former co-worker.
This deals a huge blow to Arsenal, who hoped to hire Monchi as Sven Mislintat’s successor; former Borussia Dortmund scout Mislintat left Arsenal in February after being the club’s head of recruitment for just 14 months.

However, the Gunners now have to hire a new transfer chief with Marc Overmars, the former Arsenal winger, believed to be their second choice target.
Overmars currently works for Ajax and has proven his skill in the role with the Dutch outfit re-establishing themselves as one of Europe’s elite over the past season.

And the north London club’s supporters were not taking the news of Monchi’s return to Sevilla well on social media.
